Name: Cynic Guru Cynic Guru is led by multi-talented singer/songwriter/violinist Roland Hartwell, a member of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra who has played with Elvis Costello, Dr. Dre, Burt Bacharach, Barry White, P Diddy, Mandy Moore, and The Moody Blues amongst others. Cynic Guru has blazed a trail in their homeland with their own unique brand of slightly skewed, deceptively dark rock music. Cynic Guru’s unique blend of twisted story-telling, oddball-eclecticism and radio-friendly pop falls somewhere between The Mothers of Invention and E.L.O re-imagined by 80’s pop producer extraordinaire Trevor Horn, and as such, completely defies categorization. Their debut album ICELAND has already been a huge smash back home, where it was released by Iceland’s biggest record company to critical and commercial acclaim, spawning several hit singles, including recent single “Drugs” which reached number one in the Icelandic charts. Cynic Guru will release their highly anticipated second CD in summer 2009.
