Russian madness from Samara. “Cheese People” is a band of four that mixes together funk, disco, electronica, and hip hop and has no analogues in Russia and even in the whole world. The sound is influenced by European indie and electronica bands and the vocals are ‘bit like Russian adaptation of j-pop vocal style. This band actually reminded some of Japanese female fronted bands like: YMCK, Plus-Tech Squeeze Box, etc. They gained some attention after their song “Uaaa…a!” appeared in 2008 Russian movie hit Rozidgysh (Prank) and now Cheese People are smashing clubs all over the country. Their debut self-titled release is varying from electronic pieces similar to The Prodigy to post-punk songs like “Catch U”. It’s a structural madness that needs a few spins before you get into it. If you are looking for some fresh and good Russian bands don’t miss this crazy team.
